Course Content

Pupils will start with a series of short projects in which they will develop design skills and knowledge of textiles. Theory will be taught alongside the design projects.

The main project will start later in the year, where pupils design and make an item in line with a brief specified by the exam board. Revision and exam preparation lessons will complete the course, following submission of controlled assessment design portfolio and practical outcome in Spring 2018.

The structure of assessment for textiles incorporates 60% controlled assignment and 40% final examination.

The controlled assessment project, with the exception of research and preparation, must be done under informal supervision. Research and preparation may be completed under limited supervision. The project will be completed in 40 hours of informal supervision, will be marked by teachers, and moderated externally.

Homework

Pupils should expect to receive an hour of homework a week, which will consist of a variety of research, design-based tasks and revision for formative tests.
