Parent Bulletin 21.01.2022

21st January 2022

This week's bulletin is available to download here.

Dear Parents and Carers

We’ve had another busy and productive week at school, with Year 9 Options events taking place to support pupils in choosing their subjects for Key Stage 4 next year.  Yesterday, pupils had the opportunity after school to learn about the new subjects on offer to them, and the recorded presentation which explains the options process is available on the website.  All Year 9 pupils will be offered a guidance interview over the coming weeks, which parents are invited to attend virtually.

Tuesday Closure Day

School is closed to pupils on Tuesday; staff will spend the day working on developing curriculum plans and resources.

Vaccinations

The NHS school vaccination team will visit again on Friday 4th February to carry out second Covid vaccinations.  They can also give first vaccinations to eligible pupils who missed the November date. Please see the attached letter for information about this process and you are asked to complete new consent forms for either vaccination. Please contact the vaccination service directly with any queries about this; our school nurse is not able to answer questions about vaccinations.

Face Coverings

As you’ll be aware, the Government has removed the recommendation that secondary pupils should wear masks in classrooms.  Any pupil who wishes to continue to wear a face covering in class may do so. Face coverings are still required from Monday in communal areas, so please continue to ensure that you are providing your child with a reusable mask.

Covid Rates

Our Covid infection rates remained broadly similar this week, with a total of 35 cases currently.  This includes 10 members of teaching and support staff. Covering for absent colleagues has been very challenging with a real shortage of agency staff. We can only hope that the impact of removing the classroom face-covering requirement does not make this worse; please test your children on Wednesdays and Sundays and report the results to the Test Register, to help us try to manage this situation.

Car Parking

Please remember that Swansley Lane should not be used to drop off and collect pupils from school – this creates a real hazard for the many pupils who cycle. Please encourage your children to walk or cycle to school whenever they can; the main car park is very busy, particularly after school; please park in the marked bays and do not pick up your child on the road, to keep this area as safe as possible.

I hope you all have a very good weekend.

Yours sincerely

Claire Coates
