Admissions Consultation

25th April 2018

Amendments required to 2019/2020 Admissions Policy

Plans have been made for a second campus to be built at the College to accommodate the growing number of students living in Cambourne.

The Office of the Regional School Commissioner has granted permission for the construction of a new campus, adjacent to the existing one, which was initially thought to be ready for September 2019.

The second campus will not only alleviate pressure on the existing school, where a new wing and other facilities have just been completed for this academic year to provide enough space for the full complement of 945 students from Years 7-11, but also to serve the needs of the proposed new community of Cambourne West.

There are plans for 2,350 new homes by 2030 at Cambourne West and the Trust has successfully argued that additional secondary school places are needed from 2019.

The new campus was expected to open with three forms of entry, up to 90 students, in Year 7, from 2019 and the Pupil Admission Number (PAN) for our Year 7 intake was increased in the 2019/2020 policy to reflect this. However, plans for the new campus have been delayed until 2023 and consequently there is now a proposal to build another new wing to our existing building to be able to accommodate the demand for secondary school places needed from 2019.

As this new plan will provide less accommodation than the delayed, larger, new campus, we need to reduce our PAN for September 2019 intake to 240, one additional form of entry. The College will make every effort to offer places to all those pupils living in our catchment area.

Objections to any of the proposed amendments to the admissions arrangement can be made by contacting admissions@cambournevc.org no later than Friday 8th June. Please be aware, this email only receives incoming mail and all comments will be reviewed at the end of the consultation period.
