Bulletin 13.01.2023

13th January 2023

This week's bulletin is available here.

Dear Parents and Carers

School Heating

We are making some progress with repairs to the damaged heating system, with our site team working hard to support this. Today, normal supply to the Orange Wing and Performance Hall has been restored. Other teaching areas of the school are being supplemented with portable radiators and further repair work is scheduled for next week. Normal lessons are proceeding well.

Phoenix Force Racing – Inclusion Project

A group of CamVC students are working on an entry to the Formula 1 in Schools Challenge. This is a STEM project (Science Technology, Engineering and Maths) in which teams of students aged 9 to 19 deploy CAD/CAM software to collaborate, design, analyse, manufacture, test, and then race miniature compressed-air-powered cars made from F1 model block. Their inspirational publicity video can be seen on this link. They are seeking to raise a further £500 via their crowdfunding page. The group believe they are the first-ever ‘Inclusion’ team of students who face a range of challenges, to enter this competition; please support with a donation if you can!

Year 7 Production

A casualty of the school closure last term was the cancellation of our end-of-term concerts, but we were able to make up for this a little, last night, with a fully-tinselled performance of Father Frost, written by Mr Page and delivered beautifully by a Year 7 and 8 cast. Thank you to the Music, Dance and Drama departments and to everyone who made up the audience in the Drama Studio – it was a treat to watch and the pupils clearly loved performing.

Driving Pupils to School

This week I have received further concerns about the number of parents dropping pupils in Swansley Lane in the morning, creating congestion and a hazard to pupils on bikes. If your child has a specific need to be driven to school, please use the main school car park, avoiding the Disabled parking bays if you do not have a valid permit. Otherwise, we ask that pupils are provided with weather-proof clothing and make their own way to school; multiple pupils have been sanctioned for being late this week after claiming to be ‘stuck in traffic.’

Calendar

  • Year 9 Options Open Evening - Thursday 19 January
  • Curriculum Development Day: no pupils in school - Tuesday 24 January
  • Year 9 HPV 2 Vaccinations - Thursday 26 January

I hope you have a very pleasant weekend.

Yours sincerely

Claire Coates
