Bulletin 16.12.2022

16th December 2022

This week's bulletin is available here.

Dear Parents and Carers

School Closure

I apologise for the disruption to learning and the inconvenience caused by the failure of the school’s heating system. This has been caused by pipes freezing on the roof in the unusually cold temperatures, leading to damage to parts of the heating system. Our service engineers and Trust staff have been working hard to assess the damage and to take the necessary measures so that the school has adequate heating in place for January.

Year 11 Mock examinations have been completed in the two wings of school unaffected by the breakdown, and a warm place to work provided for the children whose families have requested this. Teaching staff have been able quickly to revert to online learning practices refined during Covid lockdowns, so we are confident that learning loss has been minimised. We will do our best to rearrange the postponed Christmas concerts in January, and next week’s remote learning will include the celebration assemblies usually held at the end of this term.

If your child is unable to access their remote learning for any reason, please contact your Year Team as a matter of urgency, so that support can be provided.

Christmas Appeal

Very many thanks for your great generosity in supporting our Christmas appeal for our families with children on Free School Meals. More than £2000 has been donated by pupils, parents and staff, and this will purchase extra supermarket vouchers to enhance the school holiday payments made by the Local Authority. This is a lovely example of the Cambourne community putting its arms around those likely to be most affected by the current cost-of-living crisis - thank you.

I will keep you updated on all issues related to the heating system, and wish you a very good weekend – the predicted thaw is much anticipated!

Yours sincerely

Claire Coates
