Bulletin 27.01.2023

27th January 2023

This week's bulletin is available here:

Dear Parents and Carers

Teachers’ Strike: Wednesday 1 February

As you are aware, schools are facing a day of disruption next week due to the national strike by members of the NEU. Please see this letter which gives details about Cambourne Village College’s closure next Wednesday for all pupils except Year 11 and Vulnerable pupils. The letter also has a link to order a packed lunch if your children have free school meals.

High Performing Pupils

It was a pleasure to watch the national Eco-Schools Awards ceremony with a group of our pupils from Years 7 – 11 yesterday, and to celebrate their achievement in being awarded the prize for the Healthy Living School of the Year.  Congratulations to all involved!

On Thursday we welcomed visitors from Aston University who came to support our team with their design for the Formula 1 in Schools Challenge.  It was great for the pupils to receive this high level of technical support. Please see their inspirational publicity video on this link, and visit their crowdfunding page.

Our Year 10 Historians attended the Historical Associate Great Debate in Cambridge last night, and did incredibly well to be awarded 3rd place in a field of mostly sixth form opposition. Congratulations are again in order! All these events will feature in this term’s News@Cam.

Access to Schools:  Planning Application

Please remember that the deadline to comment on the planning application by SCIP that provides a direct road link to Sheepfold Lane for cycles and buses from the Business Park Road, but does not allow cars to use this route, closes for comments on 3 February.  Details are on our website.

Swansley Lane

This week we have received multiple complaints from residents of Swansley Lane as parents are using this road to drop children off in the morning, creating serious congestion and a hazard for our cyclists.  Please provide your children with appropriate wet or cold weather clothing and allow them to make their own way to school. We are aware that the roads and paths were particularly slippery on one morning, but as a general rule, children who are able to get here under their own steam should be encouraged to do so.

Charitable Trust

We’re delighted that our Performance Hall is now almost fully equipped and we’re looking forward to the first night of our school production of Chicago, to celebrate this great new facility.  We’re holding a grand raffle, as a fundraiser on this occasion, and would very gratefully receive any further prizes from local companies or individuals, such as hampers and vouchers for restaurants, etc.   Please contact Mrs Collins on ccollins@cambournevc.org if you are able to contribute a prize.

Wishing you all a very good weekend,

Claire Coates
