Bulletin 31.03.2023

31st March 2023

This week's bulletin is available here.

Dear Parents and Carers

Thank you for all your support as this very busy term comes to an end.  Please do have a look through our school magazine, News@Cam, for a full review of the breadth of activities offered to our pupils, reports of some of their amazing achievements, and an update on the progress of building work.  The magazine also features an article about the excellent Eco Festival organised by CamVC staff and pupils, hosted here last Saturday.  The magazine is on this LINK

School Lunches

Unfortunately, our school caterers, Pabulum, have informed us of their intention to raise the price of school lunches from the start of next term.  They will publish a full revised tariff in April; however, they will be increasing the price of a main meal to £2.00 and the meal deal to £2.50.  Please see the attached letter.  The Government has not increased the tariff it pays to schools for free school meals, however, the College will subsidise the meal deal offer to eligible FSM pupils for the next term, whilst we await an update on this.

Teacher Strikes

It’s a matter of huge concern that the issues around the teacher strikes are unresolved.  From a school leader’s point of view, any pay increase awarded to teachers that is not supported by additional funding from the Government will place immense pressure on the school budget – which is already insufficient to provide the quality of education we want for your children.  Recruitment of new teachers to the profession is at an all-time low, with our teacher-training providers - the University and our local school-based teacher training hub - reporting very significant under-recruitment for next year.  If you are able to contact our local MP, Anthony Browne:  anthony.browne.mp@parliament.uk  to urge him to campaign for better funding for schools, this would be enormously appreciated.

Ms Boyns is Leaving

Today Ms Boyns is leaving Cambourne Village College.  Philippa has played an integral part in the life of the College over the past nine years, for the past four as Deputy Principal.  Very many pupils and families have benefitted from her dedicated, skilful support and care, while her exceptional organisation skills have been fundamental to our operations at school, never more so than in her leadership of the extra measures that kept us safe during the pandemic.  We will miss her immensely and wish her the very best of luck in all her new endeavours. Our new Deputy Principal, Mr Tom Darling, will start with us on 2 May.

Raffle Draw

Thank you to everyone who brought tickets for our Grand Raffle!  This has been drawn today and the lucky winners will be informed shortly.  We will publish their names on our website next term, along with the total funds raised and the tutor group prize for the most tickets sold.

I wish you all a very enjoyable Easter holiday.
