Parent Bulletin: 20.01.2021

20th January 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

We’ve passed the half-way point for the week! Thank you for continuing to support your children’s learning at home; we’re recording more than 95% of pupils logging into lessons via ShowMyHomework this week and we don’t underestimate the parent and carer effort that is behind this reassuring figure.

Curriculum Planning Day

Please note that next Tuesday, 26 January, is a planned school closure day, specifically dedicated each year for staff to work on curriculum development. No lessons will be set for pupils, although we will be marking Holocaust Memorial Day and all pupils and parents will be invited to a live event with a Holocaust survivor – details to follow. Pupils will of course still be able to access the CATalogue and to do any of the extension activities suggested, on this day. Critical Worker School will only be open next Tuesday to those pupils whose parents cannot provide safe supervision at home.

Year 9 Live Virtual Options Evening: Thursday 21 January

This will be hosted on the school website at 6pm tomorrow and is an opportunity to listen to a presentation by Mrs Mallet, Assistant Principal, about the process for choosing options and to ask any questions. The Options brochure is already on the website and from 6pm tomorrow, links will be published to individual departments’ videos and information about the Key Stage 4 courses on offer.  Following this evening, parents and carers will be sent invitations to an individual meeting for them and their child with a member of staff to discuss option choices, and further opportunities for discussion will be available at Year 9 Parent & Carer Consultation on Thursday 4 February. We’re sorry not to be able to welcome you to what is always a lively evening at school, but I hope you will find this process a very good substitute.

Wishing you a very pleasant evening and take good care,

Claire Coates
