Parent Bulletin 11.09.2020

11th September 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

I hope your children have enjoyed their first week back at school.   We are very pleased at the way the new arrangements have gone, and with the excellent behaviour of nearly every student under the unusual teaching conditions, and after such a long time out of the classroom.  We will continue to adjust the way we’re working in order to maximise teaching time and to iron out any glitches.  Dining arrangements in particular have been reviewed for next week.   Some notices are below:

Start and Finish Times for Week Beginning 14 September

Year 7 8.30am - 2.40pm
Year 8 8.30am - 2.45pm
Year 9 8.30am - 2.50pm
Year 10 8.20am - 2.55pm
Year 11 8.30am - 3.00pm

Masks

If you wish your child to wear a mask at school, please complete the form on this link:  https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=1u3qfje_FUCP6Rn7wsAtVT3w7HP6ydZMj6fqE3JBuPxUMVQzSEJYNEpJSFNZSFQwTlJDVEdHRkFRVi4u

We can then be sure that the mask is being worn through a genuine parental concern and will challenge pupils who might be wearing masks for other reasons.  In this case, we ask that:

  • The mask is worn consistently indoors all day
  • Two or three masks clean masks are provided each day so that they can be changed when wet
  • A plastic bag is provided for each mask brought into school
  • Hand sanitiser is used before touching the mask

The school will provide masks and sanitiser to pupils on free school meals and the Pupil Premium.   Masks can also be purchased from school via WisePay:  £10 for a pack of 3 and bottle of hand sanitiser.

Yr 11 Transition – Post 16 information and Applications

On 28th September at 6pm we will be hosting a live event to explain to Yr 11 students and parents the process for applying for the next stage of their education.  We will be explaining how the process works and what support will be available.  There will also be a recorded talk for those who are unable to join us at this time.

On 1st October from 6pm, our local post-16 colleges and providers will be providing an online event to explain a little more about their own institutions and to give an opportunity to ask questions.

Students will soon be receiving College and Sixth form prospectuses, and should start to look through these.                                                                   Mrs Larbey-Douglas,  Careers Coordinator

Instrument and singing lessons

All instrument and singing lessons are due to start from Monday 14th September onwards (next week!). If your child is having lessons, they will be emailed a copy of the timetable which will include the day and time of their lesson. If they have any questions, they should email Mr Mulholland: bmulholland@cambournevc.org.

Immunisations

The Immunisation Team are making Year 7 flu immunisations a priority this term.  Consented Year 7 students will be sent an email regarding this today on SchoolPost.

The majority of Year 10 Men/DTP vaccinations which were scheduled for 1st October will now be rescheduled. However, the Immunisation Team hope to be able to catch up with some Year 10 students on the 1st October for Men/DTP (these families will be contacted individually).  Please be assured that there will be more Year 10 Men/DTP catch-up sessions in the spring term, with dates to follow when confirmed.

If you have any questions regarding immunisations, please do contact the Immunisation Team directly on – Tel: 0300 555 5055 / 07852 378 979.

Cycling to School

It’s great to see so many students on bikes and scooters.   Please remind your children of the need to cycle or scoot safely and with consideration for others.  We strongly recommend the wearing of cycle helmets.   There are times when the bike sheds are unlocked and unsupervised:  please ensure that your child uses a padlock: bikes and scooters are left at the owner’s own risk.

I hope you have very enjoyable weekends.  With all good wishes,

Claire Coates, Principal.
