Parent Bulletin 15.07.2022

15th July 2022

This week's bulletin is available here.

Dear Parents and Carers

We’ve been able to celebrate the end of this school year in what had been our traditional fashion this term.  Pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9 have enjoyed their sports days this week – it’s been great to see them throwing themselves into the activities and supporting their classmates in this festival-like series of days. Huge thanks are due to the PE department and to all the staff who have supported these events.

Our summer concert was likewise a delight, last night, with a wonderful range of performances, from stunning solo pieces on the piano, to the school choir and band performing with such evident enjoyment.  Again, our thanks to the Music Department and to the students who came back in from Work Experience to provide the technical support.

Activities Week

Next week we have the return of Activities Week. Year 10 will continue with their work experience placements, Year 7 are off to Beaumanor and another residential trip sets off to enjoy exploring the Peak District.  A very wide range of activities is on offer to Years 8 and 9 from the school base; please refer to your event confirmation for the dress code.

Heat Wave

We are very aware of the extreme weather warning in effect for Monday and Tuesday.  If your child suffers from a medical condition that is likely to be affected by the heat, please use careful judgement in deciding whether to send them to school for their day’s activity.  All pupils should be provided with sunhats, sunglasses, water bottles and sun cream if they are taking part in activities outside.  Staff will monitor the children carefully: extra rest breaks will be built in as necessary, and additional water stations provided at school. It’s likely that some activities will be modified to respond to the conditions.

School Uniform Consultation

Thank you to the 374 parents who responded to our consultation.  A summary of the results is within the bulletin.  An almost unanimous agreement with the proposal to remove the requirement for school-branded trousers, shorts and skirts next year was returned.  Very high support was given for alternative non-branded items to be consistent in style with the branded uniform, and a reminder of the rules is attached to this letter.  Thank you in advance for supporting us on this.  All items of school-branded uniform will continue to be available from our suppliers Total Clothing and Essential SchoolWear.

The last day of term is next Friday, 22 July, with a range of celebratory events planned. School will finish at 1.30pm.

Vacancies

We are recruiting for a range of support staff positions, including HR Manager, Campus Manager, General Administrator and Teaching Assistants.  All details are on the website:  please do pass on  to anyone you know who might be interested.

Wishing you all a very good – if warm… weekend.

Yours sincerely

Claire Coates
