Parent Bulletin 27.05.2022

27th May 2022

This week's bulletin is available here

Dear Parents and Carers

The final week of the half term has been a busy one. We have been intensively recruiting teaching staff - a process that has to be completed this week for all September vacancies – and at present, we appear to be in a strong position for the new academic year, despite the national shortage of well-qualified teachers.

Year 7 Parent Consultation

We were delighted to speak with 94% of our Year 7 parents and carers during yesterday’s consultation, which was an overwhelmingly positive event.  Please would any parents who are yet to complete our survey about their child’s first year at the College, do so on this link:  2022 Year 7 Parent Questionnaire

Year 10 Work Experience

This summer, our Year 10 students are finding it harder than usual to find placements for their work experience, which takes place for the seven days of 13- 21 July.  If you have any contacts who would be able to offer a position at their workplace, even for part of this time, please email Mrs Collins: ccollins@cambournevc.org . Both students and employers usually find this a rewarding experience and full guidance is given to those hosting placements.  We’d be enormously grateful for your support on this, particularly after the restrictions these students have faced over their recent school years.

Charity Sleep-Out

Twenty-two members of Year 10 slept out at school last Friday, accompanied by staff, to raise money for the charity ‘Help Refugees’.  It was a very successful awareness-raising initiative – and a very long night for the staff!  If you would like to support them, please make a donation to https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/cambourney10

On Thursday afternoon, some of these students were among those who delivered speeches on a range of societal issues to an audience of parents, staff, and our local Councillor, Stephen Drew, who thanked them for a thought-provoking afternoon; the passion and eloquence of their speeches was impressive and heartening. This event was the culmination of the students’ optional Political Literacy assessed course over the past terms – we hope to offer a similar opportunity to the current Year 9 cohort, next year.

Covid Vaccinations

The Local Authority has asked schools to share the following information with parents:

We wish you all a very enjoyable half term break.  School resumes for all pupils on 6 June.

Yours sincerely

Claire Coates
