Parent Bulletin 29.04.2022

29th April 2022

This week's bulletin is available here.

Dear Parents and Carers

We have some very special news to share with you this week:  the five students in Year 10 who had won a place in the national finals of the Design Museum’s Design Ventura Award in March, attended the final awards ceremony yesterday, to learn that they had won the competition!  This is a tremendous accolade to the creativity and hard-work of the students – and to the inspiration of the staff in our Design Technology department, who offered this opportunity to all DT students in Year 10.  Teams from more than 400 schools entered this prestigious competition.

The students had a marvellous day yesterday and have won the opportunity to work with a professional team to have their design for an ‘Eco Seed’ produced for sale in the Design Museum shop, with the profits going to a charity of their choice.  Please see inside the bulletin for further details.

Alongside this, we learnt that nine members of Miss Daniels’ Creative Writing Club have had their ‘Twisted Tales’ stories accepted for the Young Writers UK publication in June 2022, so this has been a super-successful week for our pupils.

It has been good to resume much more pupil-to-pupil contact with our catchment primary schools this term:  this week our student Language Leaders have visited Monkfield Park to support their International Week and to teach language lessons to younger pupils both there and at Hardwick & Cambourne Primary School, while we were able to welcome a group of primary pupils from across our catchment  to visit and work in our sensory garden here at CamVC yesterday.

We are delighted to welcome visitors, and pupils from two other secondary schools to our Community History Conference this afternoon. The full programme is within the bulletin and tomorrow continues with a focus on lectures that particularly support the history curriculum of our younger pupils:  Pompeii, Cambourne’s archaeology, and the Black Death! The programme is in the bulletin and you are all warmly invited to join us.

We wish you all a very enjoyable long weekend and will see the pupils again on Tuesday 3 May.

With all good wishes

Claire Coates
