School Closed to Pupils on Monday 13th December 2021

10th December 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

Unfortunately we have a problem with the water pumping system to the main school and it is necessary to ask pupils to work from home on Monday.  Please see the instructions below for pupils to access their lessons on-line.

Community bookings for the weekend are unaffected.

If your child is unable to work unsupervised at home on Monday, or is otherwise vulnerable, they are welcome to attend as normal, in full school uniform, since we can accommodate a small number of pupils in the sixth form block, where the water supply is unaffected. They will need their iPads in  order to follow the online learning set by their teachers.  Please supply a packed lunch and other snacks as required; we can’t provide any on-site catering. If you wish your child to attend, please email their name and form to thecollege@cambournevc.org with the subject line Monday School by 6pm on Sunday evening.

Free School Meals

If your child normally has free school meals and you would like them to collect a packed lunch from school on Monday, please email thecollege@cambournevc.org with their name and form, and the subject line Monday Lunch.  A packed lunch will be available for them to collect from 12.30-1.00pm.

Attendance

If your child is unwell and unable to work from home on Monday, please report them absent as usual.

Pupil Work Information

As for previous school closures, students will have work set on Teams as an Assignment, with the link to this also on ShowMyHomework so that parents and carers can see what has been set. They should submit the Assignment by turning it in once completed. Each lesson’s Assignment will be set before the start of the lesson, as per the usual timetable. They should follow the timing of their usual Monday Week B.

We are aware that some students have found that Teams has not been working as it should be. For this reason, we will, on this occasion, put the resources on Show My Homework too. If your child is unable to submit the Assignment due to an issue with Teams, they should instead email it to their teacher.

Because this is anticipated to be a single-day closure, we will not give feedback on work or reply to submissions, but instead will, in our next lesson for that subject, confirm with students that we have received their work and that it is as expected. If work has not been submitted (and a child has not been recorded as ill / having a medical appointment or similar), then we will keep them for a Homework Support Detention that day.

If your child is struggling with an IT-related issue, they should email CAM-support@cambournevc.org If they are struggling with the work, it would be helpful if they could first check with their classmates, but otherwise they can email their teacher within the timeframe of their usual lesson.

For Year 11 students due to sit their History exam, this will need to be rescheduled. We will be in touch as soon as possible about this.

I hope very much that this issue will be resolved on Monday. We will keep you informed.  I apologise for the inconvenience caused by this unavoidable arrangement.

Yours sincerely

Claire Coates
