Update 03.04.2020

3rd April 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

A lot of information in this last bulletin of the term:  please read carefully.

The first messages are from Mrs Moody, Deputy Principal for Teaching and Learning:

Work over Easter

Some of you have asked whether work will be set over the Easter break, so that your family can keep up a routine. We are not setting lessons over Easter; however, we know that some children will want to keep following their interests. There will be some tasks set as optional on Show My Homework – children are very welcome to have a go at these if they like, but shouldn’t feel any pressure to. There is also an area of the school website where we have compiled a list of links to useful and interesting websites for children to explore as they want to. It’s here: scroll down to ‘Other Useful Resources’:

Responding to concerns about workload

We have been listening carefully to feedback from parents and pupils over these two weeks, as we’ve all adjusted to this new way of working. We know that some families have found that children are working very long hours on the tasks set each day. We also know that many children are finding the work about right, or are finishing quickly. As ever, we want to strike the right balance so that all children are learning well, and are also mentally and physically well.

So, after Easter we plan to change the timetable for Key Stage 3 pupils, so that there will be three subjects per day after reading and exercise, rather than four. Wherever possible, teachers will try to give opportunities for those children who are finding work manageable to go further and explore in more depth or at a greater level of challenge, if the standard task has been completed within the time frame.

The new timetable will reach you before next term, which starts for pupils on Tuesday 21 April.

We will continue to try out different approaches to make learning interesting and manageable for everyone.

Year 11 Exam Grading arrangements

Please see earlier School Post message for Year 11 parents today from Susanne Mallett, Assistant Principal, Exams.  The information will also be published in the Exams section under the COVID-19 tab on our website.  We will make every effort to administer this process in a way that is fair to all pupils.

Easter Holiday School for vulnerable pupils and those of fKey Workers will run for the full two weeks.  Please email ccoates@cambournevc.org with any attendance requests or information.

Online Safety

We continue to be really concerned about the possibilities of on-line abuse of our pupils.  Please read this article and monitor your children’s internet safety.  The National Crime Agency is a highly reliable source.

Pupils can email CAM-Safeguarding@cambournevc.org if they have any concerns about their safety.

Parents’ Wellbeing

If you’re struggling with working from home, managing your children’s home-learning, family confinement and general anxiety, you are not alone.  The Blurt Foundation has some comforting advice:  https://www.blurtitout.org/resource/the-coronavirus-helpful-hub#parenting

And finally - to end on an uplifting note, take a look at just some of the amazing work done by pupils at home with you this week, and now on our FaceBook pages: https://www.facebook.com/pg/CambourneVC/posts/

Have as good a holiday as you can possibly manage, and take good care,

Claire Coates
