Update 04.05.2020

4th May 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

I hope that you’ve all had good weekends: there are quite a few updates for you today.  In addition, please note three attachments:

  • EIFW Leaflet: An offer of support for parents from Sam Stacey and the Early Intervention Family Worker team
  • Community Support: a document on how you can both seek support and volunteer to help others in the local community
  • Home Learning Resources: Links to virtual museum tours, zoo tours and many more

I also received a link to an appealing new online book: The National Literacy Trust have released The Book of Hopes: Words and Pictures to Comfort, Inspire and Entertain Children in Lockdown.  Completely free for all children and families, the book is a collection of short stories, poems, essays and pictures, and has contributions from more than 110 children’s writers and illustrators, including Lauren Child, Anthony Horowitz, Greg James and Chris Smith, Michael Morpurgo, Liz Pichon, Axel Scheffler, Francesca Simon and Jacqueline Wilson.

And  school-based, here’s a notice from the Music Department:

CamVC Virtual Orchestra

If you haven’t already, then join the CamVC Virtual Orchestra (on any instrument) by recording yourself playing Also Sprach Zarathustra (the main theme from “2001: A Space Odyssey”).

The deadline for these recordings if Friday 8th March – but if you would like to be involved, and need a little longer to record your performance, please email Mr Page (gpage@cambournevc.org)

CamVC Virtual Musical

We are going to be putting together a virtual musical production of “Rapunzel: Self-isolating Since Birth!”  – with anyone from Years 7 – 11 who would like to take part.

To take part, you will need to:

  1. Sign up
  2. You will then be sent a short section of solo singing to learn*
  3. Practise the part you’ve been sent to perform
  4. Think about costume (very simple – and silly / creative is fine) and any acting and movement you might want to add
  5. Record yourself (or get someone to record you) performing your short section
  6. Ask a parent to email the recording to Mr Page

*All the main roles will be split between lots of singers – so no one person will be playing the part of Rapunzel / the prince. It will be all mixed up.

You don't have to be a great singer - it's about having fun, and doing something altogether!

If you would like to sign-up to be part of this – or if you have any further questions about being involved, please email Mr Page (gpage@cambournevc.org) by 4pm on  Friday 8th May)

Both these pieces – along with a new piece from Jazz band – will be performed as a virtual concert towards the end of May! We look forward to you all getting involved.

Finally, thanks to the lovely people who decorated the school gate so beautifully for us this morning (see our FaceBook and Twitter accounts)  with ornaments all made recycled 2 litre plastic bottles?  – what a great start to the week!

Take care everyone,

Claire Coates

Principal
