Update 05.06.2020
5th June 2020
Dear Parents and Carers
Another week of lockdown done – and at least it hasn’t been so enticing to leave the computer and head outside…
Year 10: World of Work
Please see the attached letter from Mr Thomas, Head of Careers and Work Experience, giving details of an excellent virtual Careers and Work Experience event for your children, running alongside their remote learning next week.
An update from Miss Curtis, Head of PE:
The Virtual interform competition is a fabulous success. Thank you to all the parents, carers and students who have been getting involved. There is still the weekend to go in order for you to submit your results and healthy selfies. You have until Sunday 7pm!
Many of the top positions are incredibly close with only one or two entries splitting the 1st place and 2nd place forms. Your entry could make all the difference!
Do keep an eye out on our Twitter page @CamVC_PE as we have several very exciting projects coming up, including our Virtual Sports Awards Evening as well as our first virtual PE fixture. More information will be following soon.

Dear Parents and Carers
My Week of Work: 8 – 12 June 2020
As you are already aware, we disappointingly had to cancel July’s work experience placements because of the COVID-19 situation. We are now fortunately in a position to access an on-line package: “My Week of Work”. This is a series of talks and lessons which will provide pupils with some of the insights into the world of work that come with a work experience placement.
The Careers Enterprise Company, Oak National Academy and Learn Live have worked in partnership to create a whole week’s worth of content aimed at preparing young people for the world of work. They will hear from employers, learn about the businesses and complete virtual work tasks. The content has been developed in partnership with employers, school leaders and careers education experts.
A full week of activities is on offer, however, Year 10 pupils will need to keep up with their usual curriculum and meet their usual subject deadlines. Year 10 students are therefore expected to prioritise the three sessions that most interest them from ‘My Week at Work’ and either watch these live, adapting their daily lessons around them, or use the on-demand feature after completing their school work. We will identify suitable follow-up work in our timetabled Careers remote learning sessions.
Students should go to https://learnliveuk.com/my-week-of-work/ and sign up for approximately three sessions over the week. These live sessions with employers and labour market experts also have a live chat facility. Most of the sessions will be available via video on demand afterwards: https://learnliveuk.com/videos-index/?stream_type=on-demand . Questions can be asked later from the on-demand videos but replies will be much less immediate. Reassuringly, Learn Live has put together very robust safeguarding and data protection procedures to protect the youngsters taking part and details are available on their website https://learnliveuk.com/safeguarding-policy/. Parents are able to sit in and watch too, if they wish.
