Update 13.07.2020

13th July 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

September Opening

Our planning for September is ongoing and I will prepare a video presentation for you, to be sent out later in the week, explaining the model and our current thinking.   There will be an opportunity to ask questions, which we will do our best to answer!

Return of Year 10 test papers

Very many thanks to all Year 10 pupils who have returned test papers so far:  please remind any children who haven’t yet done this to return their papers tomorrow, so that they can all be collated and distributed to staff for marking.

Staff Leaving this Week

One of the really sad things about lockdown is not being able to say goodbye in the usual way to a number of staff who are leaving at the end of this term:  Miss Coe is leaving her post as SENCo to take up a position based at Swavesey Village College;  Miss Clash is taking up a post as Head of English;  Mr Fernandez is moving to Ireland where he will teach while carrying on his research activities; Dr Stephens is taking up a position at Hills Rd Sixth Form College and Miss Holman is leaving teaching to work as a designer.  Two teachers who have covered for staff on maternity leave are also leaving this week:  Ms Westbrook and Mrs Miquel.  We are tremendously grateful to all these teachers for all they have done for the College and they leave us with our very best wishes for their new careers.

We’re also saying goodbye to a number of support staff and teaching assistants.  Mrs Briggs left us earlier this term and we have five members of staff leaving us to train as teachers next year, which is a huge compliment to the pupils of CamVC!  Miss Coutts, Ms Duncan, Ms Joshi, Miss Harvey and Mr Saville will all be on teacher-training courses around the Cambridge area next year and we wish them the very best of luck!  Mr Wray who has been our Campus Manager for many years is leaving us, as is Mr Hughes of the site team.  We wish them both well and are grateful for all of their work in looking after the school.

On a much brighter note for the College, we’ve been able to recruit well-qualified teachers to fill these teaching vacancies and we’re delighted to welcome back Dr Bertuzzi, Ms Durrant and Ms Ferreira from maternity leave this term and Mrs McWherter in September.  A successful round of teaching assistant and support staff recruitment has also taken place, so we anticipate being fully staffed for September.

With all good wishes and take care,

Claire Coates

Principal
