Update 22.04.2020

22nd April 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

Here are today’s updates:

New timetable for Years 7- 9

The new timetable for next week, and information on extended learning in Key Stage 3 will be shared with you before Monday.

Important Research

The Local Education Authority has asked us to share this survey request for your children. Please take the time to consider their taking part in this important research:

Cardiff University and King's College London Survey for Children on their Media Use and Covid-19

We have been approached by Cardiff University and Kings College via the Teaching School Council to share the following request –

We want to gain greater depth of understanding of the ways in which children in the UK from a wide range of backgrounds are using media to manage personal challenges posed by the pandemic and how media might do better now and in the future to respond to their needs.  This includes how media provide connection to the outside world, to emotional/creative escape, as well as helping children to confront and manage personal fears and stresses.

Basically, what we need is as many children in the UK as possible, aged 9-13, to fill in our questionnaire on children, Covid-19 and the media. What we’re hoping  to better understand in this global study (more than 40 countries are participating) is how children are experiencing the coronavirus situation – what sort of strength and skills they are developing in response to the pandemic, and what knowledge and understanding they have gained through media (but also how media are helping them continue to learn, to cope with lockdown, etc).

The questionnaire is for children aged 9 to 13 and can be downloaded here

Scam Email

We have just been notified of a scam email claiming to be from the Department of Education and asking for bank details of people receiving free school meal vouchers.  The College will NEVER ask for your bank details for the FSM voucher system.  Please do not give your bank details to anyone whose identity you are not absolutely certain of.

I hope that you are all keeping well and managing to enjoy the beautiful weather.  Thank you to whoever chalked such a lovely message this morning on the drive we share with the primary school (see our FaceBook page)  - the staff really appreciated it!

Take care of yourselves,

Claire Coates

Principal
