Update 24.03.2020

24th March 2020

Free School Meals

All families with children on free school meals will receive an email from the Cam Academy Trust by the end of tomorrow, explaining the voucher system that will be in place until school re-opens.  In order to give you time to respond, pupils may collect packed lunches from school tomorrow, as for today:  12 - 1pm.

Year 11 – Examination Grades

The latest information published today by OFQUAL - the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation - and by the Department of Education can be read on this link  https://www.cambournevc.org/COVID-19/exams

We understand that the recent announcements have made some students and families feel concerned about their predicted grades, now that they directly impact qualifications.  Before we make any necessary adjustments to projections already made (in the Go4Schools column “current teacher projection“), we want to know exactly what evidence is allowed as the basis of these judgments. The DfE has promised that guidance will be given, to make sure this is robust and fair. For this reason, we are not making changes now.

We also want to make it clear that the teacher judgment is only part of what informs the final qualification. So, what we ultimately report may not be what the student is awarded. Appeals will be allowed if it is felt that an appropriate process was not followed. Students will also be given the opportunity to sit their exams at the earliest opportunity in the Autumn term, or alternatively in Summer 2021, if they feel their grade would have been higher had they sat exams.

We are therefore asking parents and students not to contact teachers to ask for a change to predicted grades.

Access to Home Learning

Please respond immediately if you have received the Home Access Survey message asking for information about your child’s access to a device with internet connection at home.

Pupils’ Personal Phone Numbers

Staff have begun calling pupils on their own phones to check on their home-learning and general well-being.  If you have not yet responded to the recent email asking your permission for us to do this, please do so as soon as possible.  Alternatively, please just email thecollege@cambournevc.org giving your child’s name, mobile number and stating your permission for them to be called by one of us.  If you have any concerns about this, please do let us know.

Activities Week, Beaumanor Residential and Year 10 Work Experience

We don’t know if we’ll be able to run any of these activities yet so we will not be asking for the next payment for Beaumanor at present.  We would love them to go ahead…

Thank you for your continued support – the staff have very much appreciated your messages.

With all good wishes

Claire Coates

Principal
