Update 28.04.2020

28th April 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

I suspect that for those of you with younger children, today may have been the toughest yet…  We’re thinking of you as it keeps on raining…

Updates for today:

Applications for Free School Meals

Many more families are becoming eligible to claim for free school meals as furloughing and job losses are affecting incomes.  Please see the attachment for details of how to see if you qualify, and to make the quick and simple on-line application.  Receiving free school meals also entitles the school to receive some extra Pupil Premium funding for your child, which continues for the next six years.  This is significant – please do apply if you qualify.

Year 11 Parents

Please look out for a School Post message tomorrow for details of learning opportunities for our Year 11 students.

The Department for Education has circulated this message for adults:

Online learning platform to boost workplace skills launched

Free courses are available through the new online platform, the Skills Toolkit. This platform signposts to free, high-quality digital and numeracy courses to help people build up their skills, progress in work and boost their job prospects and confidence whilst at home.

Courses on offer cover a range of levels, from everyday maths and the use of email and social media at work to more advanced training. All courses are available online and are flexible so that people can work through them at their own pace.

The Skills Toolkit can be accessed here:  https://theskillstoolkit.campaign.gov.uk/

Year 6 Transition

Today our staff met with the Heads of our catchment primaries to discuss the summer transition process.  Registration documents are being prepared and will be sent out soon. The College will be preparing an adapted range of transition activities for Year 6s to do at home if we are unable to host our normal intake days this term.  Please reassure your Year 6 children that we are thinking about them.

Award for Academic Success

The school has just been recognised by the SSAT – the Schools, Students and Teachers network – for its high performance in last year’s GCSE exams.  We are placed within the highest 20% nationally for student attainment in non-selective schools for 2019 - a welcome reminder of the saner times to which we look forward to returning!  Congratulations to the pupils of this cohort, and to the staff, for this achievement.  The certificate will be displayed on our FaceBook page.

Look after yourselves, and all good wishes,

Claire Coates

Principal
