Update 30.03.2020

30th March 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

I hope you managed a good weekend and are somewhat rested for the second week of Working From Home… Thank you for all the feedback about our first week.  We are taking on board your comments, particularly about excessive workload and the difficulties some pupils have had in accessing resources.  We have removed the negative points and changed the Go4Schools comment from ‘Work not completed’ to ‘Work not submitted yet’ to allow for the computer problems some of you are experiencing.  Please continue to let us know how the system is working for you.   We will be making more changes for next term.

Year 11 Exams Information

We are expecting more information this week and will share with you as soon as we have any details of what the process of awarding grades is going to look like.

Pupil and Staff Safety during Remote Learning

The more time that children spend on-line, the greater their risk of being exposed to unsafe websites and the possibility of grooming by predators. Please take a few minutes to look at the websites below – the information is very readable and more than ever relevant, right now.

Net-aware - for support for parents and careers from the NSPCC

Parent info - for support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online

Thinkuknow - for advice from the National Crime Agency to stay safe online

We’re also very aware of the risks to staff when communicating with pupils at the moment and are looking closely at our safeguarding procedures.  Please note that pupils must always use their school email accounts when messaging teachers.  Staff cannot respond to messages sent from pupils using private email accounts, nor can staff receive any images or video clips that show pupils.  Staff will follow strict procedures when making phone-calls to pupils and we would prefer for you to be present if possible.  We will only contact pupils where you have given us permission to do so, and you can withdraw this consent at any time.  I’m sure you understand the reasons for these measures.

With all good wishes for the week ahead.

Take care, everyone,

Claire Coates
Principal
