Update 30.06.2020

30th June 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

Pupil Assessments

As you can imagine, teachers are keen to assess pupils’ knowledge at the end of this unusual term of home learning, so that we can plan for the next stages of teaching.  Year 10 have been issued with packs of formal test papers, to replicate the tests that would have taken place in school at this time. (Apologies for the printing error in the papers issued on Monday.)  Some subjects in Key Stage 3 are also doing tests and in other areas, alternative assessments will be set for Years 7, 8 and 9 and communicated via ShowMyHomework. Pupils with SEND will be supported as necessary by staff from the Centre. In all cases, please support your children to do these assessments sensibly and to follow the teachers’ instructions about timing and test conditions if these apply. We need to know what the pupils don’t know in order to plan to fill the gaps, so it’s really important that they don’t cheat!

Key Stage 3 - Two departments are issuing tests; here are the details:

KS3 Science End of Term Tests

All KS3 students will be having science tests at the end of term. We would be very grateful if you could encourage your child to revise for these tests. Specific details of the tests for each year group are given below.

Year 7:  The test will be set on 7th July, with students being given one week to complete it. The test will be set as ‘homework’ – i.e. in addition to the normal lessons, so that students are able to complete all remote learning units before the end of term. The test will be set online and we expect it to take between 30 and 45 minutes. Revision resources for the test will be posted on SMHW shortly. Students in 7M will have a slightly shorter version of the test. The test will be on three of the units students have completed as home learning: Periodic Table; Understanding Health; and Forces and Motion.

Year 8:  The test will be set on 14th July. Students will be expected to complete the test during their science lesson that day. The test will be set online and we expect it to take between 45 and 60 minutes. Revision resources for the test will shortly be posted on SMHW. Students in 8XDb will have a slightly shorter version of the test. The test will be on three of the units students have completed as home learning: Environmental Chemistry; Pressure and Moments; and Plant Biology (Photosynthesis).

Year 9:  The test will be set on 9th July. Students will be expected to complete the test during their science lesson that day. The test will be set online and we expect it to take between 45 and 60 minutes.  Revision resources for the test will shortly be posted on SMHW. The test will be on three of the units students have completed as home learning: Waves; Cells; and the History of the Atom.
