How to revise languages effectively

1. Resources: You will have access to a number of online resources that relate directly to the GCSE Language course you are studying. These will include Quizlet and Active Learn, both of which will allow you and your teacher to keep track of your learning.

Languages teachers are also available for individual support.

2. Using past papers: AQA past papers are also a powerful tool. It can help you to identify your weakest areas in the subject, but also your strongest ones so you know exactly what to revise. When marking your practice papers, use the mark scheme.

3. Using free resources: There are so many resources that you can use to help you improve! You can listen to music and podcasts in the language you are learning, and read through the transcripts whilst listening so you get a sense of how words were pronounced; even putting subtitles in the language you are learning on your favourite Netflix show helps!

3. Learning the vocabulary: Learning the vocabulary is one of the most important things to revise, and there are so many ways you can. Your textbook and the Quizlet lists shared by your teachers provide all the vocabulary that could come up in the exam, so if you learn these lists you will be absolutely fine! Even learning it for 10 minutes a day is still making progress!

Here are some ideas you can use to help you revise your vocab:

• Quizlet – just 10 minutes a day can help you make so much progress!

• Duolingo – practising for a short amount of time a day keeps your brain refreshed on sentence structures, and how the words are pronounced.

• Physical flashcards – You might learn better writing out your own flashcards; this is great if you’re a more visual learner.

• Memrise
